Galle- A world Heritage named by United Nations

  Dutch Fort   Unawatuna   Rumassala

A continuous rampart, built by the Dutch from the mid 17th century onward and added to by the British, encircles the city of Galle, interrupted by 14 massive bastions.

This 4km stretch of palm-fringed sand ranks among the twelve best beaches in the world. Attractions include an accessible, reasonably well-preserved coral reef for snorkelling.

The mountain boasts of a variety of rare medicinal plants and is the subject of many legends. A major magnetic anomaly near Unawatuna has been attributed to a meteorite strike.

Galle Cricket Ground   Hiyare   Galle Museum

Galle International Stadium, situated 116km south of Colombo, is one of the world’s most beautiful cricketing venues. The pitch favours the spinners.

The catchment zone of the Hiyare reservoir consists of about 600 acres of a rather well preserved lowland rain forest.

Located within the Fort of Galle, this museum displays the fauna & flora of the sea. It also shows in diorama form with life size models, the traditional methods of fishing.
